MEXICO CITY—Mexico says is it ending the unprecedented open relationship with U.S. security agencies that developed in recent years to fight drug trafficking and organized crime.

Government official Sergio Alcocer says all U.S. contacts will now go through Mexico's federal government. That's a dramatic change from the direct sharing of resources and intelligence among law enforcement under former President Felipe Calderon.

Alcocer is deputy foreign minister for North American affairs. He confirmed the policy change to The Associated Press on Monday.

President Barack Obama travels to Mexico on Thursday for his first bilateral meeting with President Enrique Pena Nieto, who took office in December.
