Venezuela Denounces Financial Boycott Against UNESCO
Rebeca Sanchez
Paris, Apr 17 (Prensa Latina) Imperial financial boycott imposed on UNESCO after acceptance of Palestine has become a strategy to blackmail and block the organization, Venezuelan Ambassador to that entity Rebeca Sanchez denounced.
The United States, main contributor, decided to stop its payments since the general Conference agreed, in 2011, to incorporate Palestine as a member State with full rights.
The crisis caused by this situation has led to greater dependence on extra-budget funds, and its political cost has been translated into a systematic privatization of UNESCO, something that undermines its inter-governmental nature and violates its autonomy, said Sanches.

She exhorted to implement urgently a reform to allow the institution to play a leading role in issues as consequences of a neoliberal model willing to save major banks instead of fighting poverty or climate change.
The ambassador also said UNESCO can not be indifferent to abuse by the largest media monopolies and their manipulation of the information flow to promote war propaganda.
