CNE's head: Venezuela faces a profoundly anti-democratic election
The next presidential election to be held in Venezuela on April 14 will be irreproachable and transparent from a technical perspective, but "profoundly anti-democratic" in its nature because the conditions among candidates are uneven, Vicente Díaz, director of the National Electoral Council (CNE), stated.
"If we delve into the national electoral ecosystem' we are facing a profoundly anti-democratic election; a basic principle in this regard is that contestants shall take part in under equal opportunities and that is exactly not the case," Díaz told AFP in an interview.

In recent years, the CNE'S director has reported 16 violations presumably committed by late Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez concerning electoral processes.
Díaz remarked that the Electoral Council is commonly regarded as biased and a servant of the Executive Office. He explained that the Government and Hugo Chávez are partially responsible for such critiques as some of the Council's decisions have been undermined by the Venezuelan Government.
