Giant Head Found Floating In Hudson River
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- Marist College crew team member Evan Heaton said, "You could see kind of the general shape from the distance."
Like salty old fishermen at sea, members of the Marist College crew team having been telling stories all week long of their "big catch" in the Hudson River. A discovery no one in these parts ever recalls having been made before.
Crew member Daniel Nesfeder said, "Someone eventually pointed out once we got closer to it that it was a head."
Not the head of a person, fortunately. Nor was it the head of some river inhabitant. This was the head of something much, much larger.
Crew coach Matt Lavin said, "It's actually pretty heavy. Ten or 12 guys had to carry it. It's pretty water-logged."
Measuring about seven feet tall, composed of some combination of fiberglass and Styrofoam, the giant head now resides outside of the crew team boat house.
Coach Matt Lavin says where it came from, and who it belongs to remains a mystery.
