Florida Man Arrested For Stealing Cemetary Vases

Several weeks ago marker after marker at All Souls Catholic Cemetery in Sanford were stolen by thieves.

The Sanford Police Department said the metal value of the vases is why thieves were so attracted to them.

The vases are solid brass, bronze and copper.

New, they cost a couple of hundred dollars, are built to last decades and have value as scrap.

An enormous bin filled halfway with the vases was recovered at Volusia County recyclers over the weekend.

Colby Costello, 21, was arrested and accused of dealing in stolen property and providing false information to a second-hand dealer, or in this case, a recycler.

But if you think that nothing is sacred:

Police said a $36,000 brass statue was stolen from Mahoning Valley Memorial Park before parts of it were scrapped for just $25.50.

The 4-foot brass statue of a soldier recently was stolen from the cemetery, before someone tried to scrap it for cash at the Girard Recycling Center, a police report says.
