The defeat of the national reciprocity amendment is a major defeat for the NRA.
They tried a poison pen amendment and it failed big time.

That would have weakened or obliterated the states that had good gun control had it taken place.

They tried to pull a fast one.

And now I need to read all about the national reciprocity amendment.

There were battles lost
There was a big battle won.

Unfortunately hundreds, thousands will die.

Why can't the NRA just give it up now?
But their time is ending.
Like a panademic. It takes a while for a vaccine to be made, and distributed.

President Obama's speech today was a battle cry. I never heard of any national leader speak out so strongly agaisnt the NRA or any super pac like this.

The beginning of the end is coming.

But unfortunately many people will still die and be wounded.

The NRA and the gun folk know this, which is why they are trying so hard to hold on.
But we will win.

I always thought that anyone allowed to buy a gun should be forced to listen to hours of 911 recordings where people called to report accidental, deadly shootings, especially of/by children. They should have to sit there and listen to some kid screaming he just shot his little brother, until the lesson sinks in. Then maybe they wouldn't even buy a gun after that. At the very least they deserve to have nightmares.

Can you imagine them giving Obama or anyone speaking against the media owners equal time with LePew, Jones or Pratt?

They gave them free air time to spout the lies and are a major part of why people continue to call their politicans to defeat the bills. The NRA have been consistent fighters against gun control, not single event ones.

The media distracts, detracts and misinforms daily on every venue to shut us down.

The media would rather keep the issues roiling than present the truths. They give the NRA and LaPierre air time, not challenging their twisted version of facts -- the media did not counter their lies about what was written in the bill.
I was glad to see the president actually use the word "lies" in his furious response to the defeat of the bill.
(Fox News never even covered the message, but that comes as no surprise.)
The media should be ashamed, they fail us time and time again.

i appreciate that he spoke so forcefully about this, but he really needs to go full throttle and tell the whole truth.

this is not about the senators being worried about gun owners; in fact, this defies logic, given he just noted that 90% of americans wanted this bill to pass.

no no; these senators are not afraid of the voters, and they're not afraid of gun owners; they're afraid of the NRA, which represents gun manufacturers, the real culprits in all this.

when he or anyone in congress shows the guts to say that, then the world will sit up and take notice.

don't hold your breath.

I have to smile whenever I run across an op-ed piece -- on CNN's site, say -- asserting this as if it's something new. It's quite clear that these days the NRA is nothing more than a lobbying organization for the gun manufacturers.

If you mean they are afraid of losing campaign contributions from the NRA , you are correct. As for the gun manufacturers, I suspect many would go along with reasonable controls such as gun locks, and gun registration, since it woulld not have a significant effect on their sales in total and the willingness to appear a good citizen might even help their business. No it is not the Smith & Wessons or the Colt companies but rather the makers of overpriced large capacity magazines and bump fire stocks who appeal to the killer ego who would object. We need to fight these magazine and stock manufacturers and the NRA. By the way the largest corporate contributor to the NRA is a manufacturer of high capacity magazines.
