Obama to announce Tuesday he will regulate existing power plants as part of climate strategy

“This Tuesday, I’ll lay out my vision for where I believe we need to go — a national plan to reduce carbon pollution, prepare our country for the impacts of climate change, and lead global efforts to fight it,” the president said. “This is a serious challenge — but it’s one uniquely suited to America’s strengths.”

In Saturday’s statement, Obama emphasized the economic opportunities that could come from tackling carbon emissions.

“We’ll need scientists to design new fuels, and farmers to grow them,” he said. “We’ll need engineers to devise new sources of energy, and businesses to make and sell them
.”

Once again our president is doing what needs to be done, and yet it will all be in the hands of congress to actually make things happen. If we fail to keep the Senate next year it will all be over. We need to make sure we get people in congress who will do what needs to be done instead of a bunch of do nothing teapublicans who only have one goal, take over the country and turn it into their version of "paradise" and all we have to do to see what the would be like is look at Wisconsin, Florida, Maine and all the other states that after 2010 have been run by a republican majority!

The president has great ideas that can solve the problems that face not only this country, but the entire world. He just needs some help to get things done, and the only way to do that is to vote out the party of NO and get people in office that will help him.

It's full of teabagger Climate Change Deniers. Even if one of them believed the Science behind it.. they wouldn't dare go against the ignorance of the teabaggers. They might lose their cushy Government job.

How many republicans in the house and the senate will be facing a primary challenge from the teabagger crowd? The teabaggers are mad as hell with the likes of Boehner and those who support him, so will those old guard republicans get a challenger no matter how much they kiss up the teabaggers?

Thank you Barack Obama!

I will watch the video when I get home....I so totally overslept! However I could not go to work without a comment.

Yes we can! Together as one. One voice.

Stand up and be heard! Our elections are important. To make change we need to vote. We start in Boston on Tuesday. We will vote for Markey for Senate. From there we move to 2014.

Let us use the power of our collective voices to power this change.

This is huge news:

President Obama is set to announce his plan this week to address the growing threat of climate change.

We'll know more specifics on Tuesday, but it's expected he'll offer a bold, national approach to reducing carbon pollution -- and lay out a vision to lead global efforts to fight climate change.

The powerful, well-financed forces who still deny the science behind climate change aren't going to like this -- and they'll be fighting this progress every step of the way. In fact, before he's even seen the plan, House Speaker John Boehner is calling it "absolutely crazy."

That's why President Obama is calling on all of us -- anyone who believes that climate change is a threat -- to join him in taking action right now.

Add your name today -- say you'll do your part to help fight climate change:

Thanks -- more on this soon.

Whitehouse has championed carbon taxes or fees that, unlike Obama’s planned actions, would require congressional approval. The concept has nowhere close to enough support in either chamber right now (click here and here for more about that).

He applauded Obama’s plan to move ahead with new regulations, calling regulation of carbon emissions from new and existing power plants a vital step.

The low-information voters that go after Obama on these issues, haven't paid the attention to them as he has. They only get riled up when the media tells them.

I once posted every week since 2009 the news stories of Obama's initiatives on environmental protection. His strategy was to mitigate and disempower the energy companies that forced our nation to war for resources while attacking the poor in this country with media. Obama has always promoted alternative energy, while having to fend off the Koches and Nordquists at the same time.

I don't have time to collect those first eighteen months of weekly initiatives that have materially changed the real world, to show the world of the internet what he was doing. We could prove what he's done, but those who believe the M$M lies and distortions won't believe the reality, anyway.

I am so glad to see this beautiful video that shows Obama is still looking to big picture, for years to come. He has been making the steps all along, but since the rise of the baggers of both sides in the media, it will not be heard. They won't let the truth of what their corporate masters are doing to the planet be heard, either.

Coincidence? Bridges sales now taking place on the right and the left. Don't buy into it if you really want something better.

Let's give him what he needs to make this happen. He has the intellect, emotional constitution and strength to see this vision through. Those who care, will work with him to make this possible. They should, it's about them and their children and the planet now.

Stop the visceral hate and venom and get with doing the work the Founders set upon our shoulders. Get involved, stay involved, don't listen to the lie of the day and surrender the world to the Randians.

I'm wondering how to get that into my signature line. Most of my posts finish with that icon.

Thanks, Cha, and all the BOG.

P. S. This is a post replying to an OP in the BOG. Don't mess with the best.

data on what PBO has been doing Environmentally since 2009! I read it when it was being accomplished and know the mantra of "he hasn't done anything" is not true.

Fortunately, Obama is the President in an atmosphere of willful massive ignorance from the media.. and massive ignorance of those who suck it up.

Where did you watch it, MH? I haven't seen it yet.. this is just a short 10 minute clip .

And, the test..

1:45 P.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you! (Applause.) Thank you, Georgetown! Thank you so much. Everybody, please be seated. And my first announcement today is that you should all take off your jackets. (Laughter.) I’m going to do the same. (Applause.) It’s not that sexy, now. (Laughter.)

It is good to be back on campus, and it is a great privilege to speak from the steps of this historic hall that welcomed Presidents going back to George Washington.

I want to thank your president, President DeGioia, who’s here today. (Applause.) I want to thank him for hosting us. I want to thank the many members of my Cabinet and my administration. I want to thank Leader Pelosi and the members of Congress who are here. We are very grateful for their support.

And I want to say thank you to the Hoyas in the house for having me back. (Applause.) It was important for me to speak directly to your generation, because the decisions that we make now and in the years ahead will have a profound impact on the world that all of you inherit.

On Christmas Eve, 1968, the astronauts of Apollo 8 did a live broadcast from lunar orbit. So Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, William Anders -- the first humans to orbit the moon -– described what they saw, and they read Scripture from the Book of Genesis to the rest of us back here. And later that night, they took a photo that would change the way we see and think about our world.

The Rest..
