Garden Party~ First Lady Michelle and Students in the WH Kitchen Garden.. Harvesting Veggies. Yumm!

First lady Michelle Obama offers a sniff of fennel to a student from Sarah Moore Greene Magnet Technology Academy in Knox County, Tennessee, while harvesting and cooking vegetables from the White House Kitchen Garden. The first lady was joined by students from Somerville, Massachusettes, Knox County, Tennessee, Milton, Vermont, Washington, DC and Union Beach and Ship Bottom, New Jersey.

The kids who harvested got to see Marine 1 land. They were super excited and POTUS shook each one of their hands!

Looks like Pizza to me!

I love Michelle's Garden and her ongoing energy to teach kids about the benefits of growing your own Vegetables and Herbs.

Big Bird Visits the White House

Posted by Marissa Duswalt on February 21, 2013

First Lady Michelle Obama invited Big Bird to the White House to learn how easy and delicious it is to eat fruits and vegetables. Check out the latest PSAs from Mrs. Obama and Sesame Workshop celebrating Let's Move!'s third anniversary!

On Monday, the South Lawn of the White House was a hub of activity as more than 30,000 came to play at the annual Easter Egg Roll. Activities included dancing, reading, cooking demonstrations, and lots of opportunities to get moving, with top athletes and performers helping kids learn how to make healthy choices. Take a look at some of the highlights:

The White House Kitchen Garden Summer Harvest

Posted by Kasie Coccaro on May 28, 2013

Today, a group of student helpers joined First Lady Michelle Obama for the summer White House kitchen garden harvest. For this harvest, the First Lady invited children from two New Jersey communities that were affected by Hurricane Sandy and invited back all the children who helped plant the garden in April so they could see the fruits of their labors. First Lady Michelle Obama and the students got their hands dirty picking produce from the garden.

Michelle: Today in the WH Garden..

So we’re here to harvest and we’re going to clear this out, right? Right, Sam? I know I’m going to be pulling up some radishes and doing some lettuce, but you guys are going to help harvest everything that’s over there.

After they were done harvesting they had a chance to try some of the vegetables they picked -- on a grilled garden pizza.

We’re going to actually get to eat what we harvest today. So in addition to doing some harvesting, you guys are going to help -- we’re going to do some veggie flatbread pizzas with the vegetables from the garden. You guys up for a little cooking, too?

I forgot to ad that the FLOTUS' idea of "grow your own" is much better than the one we had in High School!

I LOVE the way that this "aloof" President & First Lady relate to kids!

PEACE!

Relating to kids you say? When the President landed on the Southlawn in Marine One yesterday there was a pic of the kids' backs.. here's what happened..

I know I can relate to this young girl next in line to shake the President's hand! And, now we have a pic of Sam Kass(Sam Kass is Executive Director of Let's Move! and Senior Policy Advisor on Nutrition) in the background!

PEACE
