Help! I'm not real good with my 1-year old MacBook Pro.

All of a sudden, I've been getting these messages on YouTube that says "blocked plug-in", and it won't let me play any YouTube videos. I CAN connect to them on DU, but only if I click on the video screen embedded in the post. If I want a full-size screen shot of the video, and click on the YouTube icon at the bottom of the video to go to YouTube to watch it, I get the "blocked plug-in" message again.

I've tried to use the help icon, but it doesn't get me anywhere that looks like I know what to do.

I haven't done anything that I know of to begin blocking "plug-ins". My computer has been acting really weird with this and a few other minor changes that sort of just happened about a week ago. I don't remember downloading any updates in the past week.

Can someone help me stop this "blocked plug-in" message?

Thanks in advance.

1. Sounds like you might need to install or update your Flash installation.

Apple no longer includes Flash on Macs, because it is a horrible, antiquated drain on browsers.

And many web ads are Flash based.

I don't have Flash installed. I use Chrome for the rare occasion I need Flash, because it's imbedded there and I can run Safari Flash free.

doing this? I mean, I must have had flash before if that is the case, because I've always watched a lot of videos on my Mac. I hardly ever watch them on my PC because it is really really old.

3. Adobe updates Flash quite often for 'security risks.'

When I did have Flash installed, I would get alerts asking me to update.

It's possible that one of the updates is critical enough that Flash would not work unless you update it.

One of the many reasons I removed it from Safari.

Also...ya know how with Windows you have to go to Internet Properties to get rid of all the cookies, temporary internet files, history, etc all the time? Do you know how to get rid of cookies etc on a Mac? You know what I mean? Do I have to clean it up like I do the Windows?

At the Mac store, the guy helping me didn't think I had to get rid of cookies, but my cookies folder in "Finder" has a bunch of cookies in it. I just don't know how to delete them, or if I'm even supposed to on a mac.

Thanks again!

Do we have a way of deleting them on a Mac, or are we not supposed to?

I don't have Chrome installed, though, and don't use Opera anymore.
