Free DVD movie player?
I believe someone in here recommended the movie player I had on my old computer. I no longer have a star so I can't search for any of my prior threads. I COULD go back to the old machine, hook up, etc., but I would like to avoid it. I have a movie here that won't play. It's something about DirectX and the sound 'card'. I upgraded DirectX. I suspect the error really has something to do with anti-pirate software. I need my old player.
I'm hoping someone can recommend something just as good, if not the very one, or find my old thread, if it exists. Takers?

(18,928 posts)I tried it with VLC but I'm not sure what happened. The movie never launched. I'll give it another attempt.

(18,928 posts)That worked! Thank you so much for taking the time to school me. Now I can return friend's movie when I see him tomorrow
I still like my other player better. I'm going to reconnect the HP tomorrow and I'll let you all know.
Why Syzygy
(18,928 posts)Well, that worked ONCE. I watched the movie fine. I wanted to see some of the other things after I had exited VLC.
It was a whole thing. I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the program VLC. It installed some different things than the original one had. The sound is shot. Discouraged. It won't check for updates. Gives an ERROR? goodgawd I wish I had done something to cause this so I could undo it. No idea.

(18,928 posts)I will try this one if the already installed VLC doesn't work. I'm probably going to take this system down and put up the old one so I can determine what the program was. I need to return a movie to a friend, but I'd like to watch it first
