Why can I get a program to work with Iphone using a dyndns domain name, but not from my computer?

Unfortunately, I think the program, a video streaming networking device, is accessing the LAN IP Address when I'm at home, which is why it looked like it was working. But, recently, I took the laptop to StarBucks and couldn't connect to the video stream and I wondered if it was the STarbucks firewall that was the problem or my laptop's security system. I suspect it's the latter because I tried to do the http://<domain.name:port#> and I get nothing. No connection.

You could have a weird etc/hosts entry in your hosts file, too.

It could be the firewall, but I'd check to see if I can access the domain name first, disregarding the port. If you can access the domain, then yes, it's the port that's blocked. Is it a low-level port number, or a high-level one (i.e. past 10,000)?

Oh, and did you do an nslookup on the domain name? See what it's resolving to. Some obvious problems would be if it's looping to a non-routable IP. That indicates issues with the hosts file, or something screwy with the DNS database on the provider side.
