I think my Windows Defender has fired my internet security software.
I can't get the Avast IS to come on. But it appears that there is a program on the system which is asking permission for any program that I try to access. I assume that's the defender.

(3,655 posts)or it could be a virus. Try right clicking on Avast and selecting "run as administrator".

(46,698 posts)I right clicked Avast, but there is no "run as administrator. But there was a Open Avast! user interface.
It didn't make a difference. I tried to "Secure All" but nothing changes.
I ran Superantispyware and Uniblue and CCleaner.
A week ago I removed a TrojanHorse and today an Adware. But that's it.

(3,655 posts)not the taskbar item. You can also right click on the avast item in the start menu. You can also go into the security center and turn off User Access Control to attempt to fix the problem. Avast may need updating. You will have to restart to turn off UAC.

(1,837 posts)avast has turned into another macafee or norton.. might as well be a virus. i use a free no hassle combo of microsoft security essentials and immunet 3.0 and it's the shit.
if even after you uninstall avast it keeps popping up, check your 'msconfig' startup items (start > run... > 'msconfig') and disable any avast startup items.

(3,273 posts)I tried to install it on a Win 7 Pro system (clean install with all the updates) and I got BSOD. Format...tried again... same thing. Essentials just "works".
All this on a new PC build, not a 5 year old out of date hardware, but brand new off the shelf system. After three tries I gave up on Avast and I'm not gonna waste my time on reinstalling broken software... this is 2013... this should not happen.

(46,698 posts)my superantivirus has the resistance of a zombie. I can't uninstall it using Revo because it can't find the program since I used Windows to uninstall the visible part. Now it won't let me delete it through explorer because a program call sascore or such is connected to it. It tells me to close this program, but I can't find it on the task window.

(1,837 posts)every program installed seems to think it ought to have a service startup with the machine. chances are if you haven't cleaned it out in a while there's a pile of crap you don't need and chances are one or more of those startup programs is for superantivirus.
in general the only things that need to startup are windows' tray stuff (wifi, sound, etc.) and your antivirus. everything else including CCleaner/AdvSysCare/etc. can be started manually not on startup.

(46,698 posts)The option was still there at startup, though the checkbox was blank. However, I still couldn't get rid of the Superantivirus folder. The two files that remain are sascore64 and sasctxmn64.dll.
It says it's being used by another program.

(1,837 posts)might me worth re-installing superantivirus and then using iobit uninstaller.. it has a 'powerful scan' feature that will search the hdd for extra crap and delete it after the uninstall and before reboot.
