Need a new ISP

As expected, Clearnet is going bye-byes in November and leaving me with no Internet (and a leased, dedicated router which I'm not sure what to do with). So I need to start checking options for a new service.

All I want is wireless Internet for one computer. I have no mobile devices, no fancy phones, and have no wish to fool around with television deals. I just want the fastest, cheapest, bare-bones access available so I can continue to share the riches of my soul with my pals here at DU (and elsewhere, of course).

The good news is I live right outside Philly, so I should have plenty of options. The bad news is I live right outside of Philly, so I have plenty of options.

Suggestions are welcome.

Have you checked the usual suspects? MannyGoldstein Aug 2015 #1
Yeah, they're on the list, especially since we do get basic cable from Comcast. malthaussen Aug 2015 #2

We have Internet-only through Xfinity/Comcast, I think we pay < $30 per month. You can buy a modem and router outright for under a hundred bucks, and not have to rent it monthly.

Truth to tell, I have no idea how to set up a wireless ISP, since with Clear I just took their machine, plugged it in, and started browsing.

Looks like RCN might be a good choice there.

Edited to add :

Most companies these days will install the equipment needed and set up your wireless and connect at least one device to it.

I don't want cable. Comcast totally butchered the wiring of my cable TV, there's no reason to think they'd do any better with a modem.
