Six admit planning to bomb English Defence League rally

Omar Mohammed Khan, Mohammed Hasseen, Anzal Hussain, Mohammed Saud, Zohaib Ahmed and Jewel Uddin all admitted preparing an act of terrorism between 1 May and 4 July 2012.

The group took a homemade bomb to an EDL rally in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, but arrived after the event had ended.

They were caught after their car was stopped for having no insurance.
...
Police and security services had no intelligence about the planned attack on 30 June, although one of the would-be killers was under surveillance in relation to another terrorist plan.

Thank goodness for incompetent terrorists, because the surveillance wasn't exactly effective, was it?

if the BBC changed its headline ? I noticed that earlier - I'd swear there was no mention of a bomb and thought the intent was simply to disturb / attack the rally.

I'd guess things like this are under reporting restrictions until a guilty plea, or evidence is given in court. Maybe they started off with a basic "attack the rally" story before they'd worked out exactly what they could and couldn't report?

On edit: there's a site called 'web sniffer' that monitors changes to BBC news stories, which says this was the original version: http://www.newssniffer.co.uk/articles/636315/diff/0/1 (9:40 UTC, ie 10:40 BST)

I might have spotted elsewhere when it initially said something like "attack the rally" which I took to mean give the EDL a dose of their own medicine.
