Master Lock-Financially stable company refuses to agree to fair contract

MILWAUKEE -- UAW Local 469 members at Master Lock will hold an informational picket near the company's plant here April 19 at the corner of 32nd and Center streets to encourage management to negotiate a fair contract that rewards their hard work and provides a fair share in the company's success.
About 350 UAW members at Master Lock are working without a contract while both sides meet with a federal mediator.
The UAW agreement with Master Lock expired March 31, and was extended to April 3. The parties have yet to reach an agreement as the company has demanded the elimination of retirement benefits for active workers, and proposed to shift more health care costs to those workers.
In addition, the company's offer also continued an unfair two-tier benefits structure and failed to provide adequate wage increases. The two-tier system already denies some workers a pension. Workers overwhelmingly voted down those terms.

Any company to does not play fair does not get MY business. It may be a mere drop in the bucket, but if we all speak with what dollars we do have, we can make a difference.

When I had to buy a new dishwasher, I told them I wanted to see one that WASN'T made in China. They looked at me like I was nuts. I finally found one made in So. Korea. I haven't set foot inside certain stores (WalMart) and won't. I find alternatives, but it's REALLY hard especially when you live on an island with few choices.
