Sen. Ron Johnson's "Victim of Government" was really nothing more than a victim of his own stupidity

Unfortunately, the Corps issued a Cease and Desist letter Mr. Lathrop in December 1990. The Corps informed him that the dump was a "wetland" under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.
Later Johnson charges that the Corps is guilty of "injudicicious application of wetland regulations."
What Johnson fails to mention is that this area that Stephen Lathrop wanted to develop, used to be depicted on many old maps as a lake and is today called Dobrey Slough. For those of you not familiar with word "slough," its another word for marsh, swamp or... wetland.
The reason why the Corps was calling this area a wetland is because its a wetland. And, as is typical of wetlands around the Mississippi River, this is a wetland that floods often... which is why its in a designated floodplain. In fact, at the time of this writing, the area that Ron Johnson claims was "injudiciously" classified as a wetland is not only very wet, but is under several feet of water.

Just to let him know how "injudicious" the Army Corps of Engineers was being.

On Edit: Are we absolutely certain this is the area he was referring to in his letter? Looks legitimate and multiple sources.

It would be nice to know if that aerial photo came from one of the local news affiliates and was sourced back to them as being the slough. I just hate it when something like that photo gets distributed and then later busted as not really what it purports to be. Maybe I'm overly cautious and sensitive given all the bad reporting and pictures of innocent people from the last week. But it happened with the Venezuela elections stories too. Photos of the election authorities burning ballots from the 2010 elections (as per their legal obligation to do so after a period of time) got posted recently and were said to be of the government burning ballots in the most recent election to endure Maduro's win.

RW M.O.:

Make up a horror story
spread it around through the media
discover it's totally false
stand by it anyway.

When clicking through the links, I just noticed that it wasn't just RJ that signed the letter. My post was merely a small admonition to "proceed with awareness".
