Misleading Chinese Ginseng Deal ( NewWisGov)

http://www.newwisgov.com/blog/chinese-ginseng-deal-farmland-rules

Scott Walker is misleading us again. State newspapers are helping him do it.

Desperate for good news on jobs, Scott Walker announced Wisconsin will sell millions of dollars of ginseng to China.

The problem is we already sell millions of dollars of ginseng to China:

The deal is a renewal of existing partnership between Wisconsin's which started in 2009. Only products sealed with an official trademark are now allowed to be sold at TRT stores.

Wisconsin's annual ginseng exports to China jumped from 30,000 pounds in 2006 to 200,000 pounds in 2011, thanks to lower tariffs and a crackdown on counterfeits.

Wisconsin sells an average of $30 million worth of ginseng per year and $20 million of it goes to China.

The only thing left to figure out is if this Chinese company represents the entire Chinese market for Wisconsin ginseng.

Here's the original statement from the 2009 agrrement signed by Governor Doyle:

"Under the agreement, Tong Ren Tang will be the exclusive distributor of Wisconsin ginseng in China."

A pleasant call to the Wisconsin Ginseng Co-op confirms that only coop ginseng is sold to China for purposes of quality control.

However, the Hsu family in Wisconsin says they sell ginseng to China without the seal & not through the co-op. More details are being researched.

When state newspapers print headlines saying "Scott Walker Signs $200 Million Deal" it makes it sound like he is bringing new business to the state. The $200 million is just the average yearly business we already do with China multiplied by the ten year agreement which simply renewed the agreement put in place by the Wisconsin ginseng growers & Governor Doyle in 2009.

after all since he`s taken over everything he`s touched turned to shit. just give him this little white lie to make his day. after all there`s a federal hearing about his restriction of free speech, the thousands of dollars prosecuting the sign holders and singers, and the extra cost of policing the capital.

i did`t know wisconsin grew commercial ginseng.
