(3,991 posts)Called something like the government / corporation information gathering parity and transparency act. Basically what it would say is that information gathered by the government on browsing habits won't exceed that gathered or gatherable by private corporations, or vice versa. And also that information on the total data gathered, and its nature, by private and government entities is made known to consumers.
I deeply respect the EFF, but I don't want to place restrictions on government that private sector corporations, and criminal networks they might interact with don't have to deal with. I don't want for instance the FBI always playing at a disadvantage against the bad guys. But at the same time, I don't want an all powerful government that private sector companies feel they have to cower before. I want to see a natural balance, where the intelligence gathered is spread amongst different interests for safety, and consumers have an exact understanding of what that information is, so they may choose to opt out of products that gather more information on them than they would like.

(29,098 posts)I really had that twisty feeling in my stomach when I voted for her. Was very disappointed she won the primary. But if she turns into a mini Maria Cantwell...I can live with it... I won't like it but ...It could be far far worse.

(55,981 posts)Do you know the split vote for the complete HOR? My rep is Derek Kilmer and I want to know how many other DEmocrats voted with the Republicans. I assume most voting in favor were Republicans. I intend to discuss this with Rep Kilmer.

(55,981 posts)to SS and Medicare incl using the CPI. Here is his response which is about as much to be expected, "Third, we need a budget that keeps our promises and is consistent with our nation's values. For instance, we need to keep our promises to veterans who have served this nation admirably. If you serve your country, we should have your back. In addition, we need to ensure that seniors are able to retire and live with dignity. Folks should be able to get the benefits that they've paid into.
Let me say a word about why this matters to me. My grandmother is 103-years-old. For the last few decades, she has relied on Social Security and Medicare. I know just how important it is for her and seniors throughout Washington State that we continue to protect the benefits that they have earned. I support maintaining the Medicare guarantee and think it is important that seniors are able to have access to affordable health care. Several of the budget proposals would have fissured that promise to seniors. In my view, there are a lot smarter ways to balance the budget."
A lot of rhetoric but seems to be positive.
Thanks again for all you do eridani.
