(15,797 posts)The GOPers had theirs last month, catered in the grand ballroom at the university. Lovely setting, complete with crystal chandeliers.
For the last several years, our big Roosevelt dinner has been held at the events center at the fairgrounds. Not this year. The idea arose after the OFA day of service; one of our teams spent the afternoon packing food boxes at the food bank. Part of that day included a tour of their new kitchen, and the rest is history. The food bank has its own events, with all the boxes and crates moved to one end of the warehouse, so this is something they are already prepared to do. Instead of paying the fairground's caterer, we'll be paying the foodbank. And we'll still have a grand time, a chef-prepared dinner, a great auction (no guns, lots of chocolate), a speech from one of our Senators, and dancing.
It's a win-win situation: This will inaugurate this new service offered by the food bank and will bring them much needed money and some good publicity, and the local Dems will get some awesome (and may I say well-deserved) recognition for doing a good thing for the community.
The GOP may have the chandeliers, but the Dems have all the class!
