(12,232 posts)Wish I had taken some pics while it was coming down here. It was an odd sight seeing all that hail washing down the hill in a steady white, icy stream. A couple of cars couldn't make it up the hill and had to head back down after only making it halfway up. Pretty wild stuff for mid April.

(12,232 posts)Quite intense for awhile.
Most has washed away now, but it's still so slick people are spinning their wheels getting up the hill.
Be safe!

(23,156 posts)I'm guessing the roads were pretty slick for a while.
I used to live in Kansas, so I'm reasonably familiar with serious hail. Oh. And one time when we lived in Colorado, driving through Idaho Springs a hail storm was so fierce we stopped the car to wait it out.

(12,232 posts)I'm sure you've been in far worse in Kansas back in the day.
This was small hail, but a lot came down quickly.

(23,156 posts)And I, even after living in Kansas for 18 years, never saw hail any larger than the size of average hail. I have never seen even golf-ball sized hail, let alone bigger.
Hail can be incredibly damaging. One of the things I got used to in Kansas was that every spring you could count on "hail-damaged" car sales. Yep. Cars on car lots are sitting out there in the elements, and when a serious hail-storm happens, even with average-sized hail, it can make serious dents in cars. Most of the time those dents will pop out by themselves as soon as it gets hot enough, but until then the cars look a mite sickly, so most dealers will knock down the price to move them off the lots.
I've never bought such a car myself, but if you pay attention -- the exact degree of damage matters -- you can get yourself a pretty good buy.

(12,232 posts)Yes, it was impressive while it lasted here, too.
Now we're back to our soggy spring in Seattle.
Lots of snow from the storm in the mountains.
