Pierce County Coronavirus: 1 More Death, 4 New Cases
PIERCE COUNTY, WA For the second day in a row, Pierce County health officials reported a single new death due to the coronavirus Thursday. They also reported just four new confirmed cases of the virus.
The health department has identified the death as a University Place woman in her 80s. She reportedly had underlying health conditions, complicating her treatment.
Pierce County has now seen a total of 1,833 lab-confirmed coronavirus cases and 72 total deaths. 22,142 Pierce residents have been tested for the virus, meaning 7.7 percent of tests come back positive. That's slightly above the statewide average of 6.3 percent.
Statewide, Washington reported 7 new deaths and 146 new cases of the virus Thursday. The new numbers bring the total death toll to 1,044, and 19,117 patients infected with the virus. On average, 5.5 percent of people who are confirmed to have the virus are killed.
