Hi Vermonters. I have a friend who is looking up an old family property in Vermont. We live in Florida and these lookups are free. But my friend keeps getting fee requests for a simple lookup in Vermont. We tried the .org sites that looked legitimate, but they keep sending us to private realty sites for the information.
Anyone have an answer? Even if there is a fee involved, can you give us the best site for these kind of lookups?
Thank you, and stay well.

(7,486 posts)I'm sure it's all computerized. I used to have to go through the records and write down what I needed. Or I could pay a fee for copies. Try that.

(46,576 posts)We did a search for Windham, VT. And we went to the county appraiser's officer.

(9,965 posts)Most of them, want to charge you handsomely for the time of day! And they'd like to see your watch, for "synchronization". If you are looking for deeds, or similar, The Register of Probate is probably who you want. In NH, OLD records go to the state archive The one in NH is quite nice, I had to search up some stuff there for my family.

(46,576 posts)a small fee. Frankly, we gave up. No offense, but Vermont's public services are not that easy to use.

(46,576 posts)Those of us in Florida who have enjoyed Public Records Request have everything to thank to those in the sixties and seventies who voted for free access. Everything began to fall to shit in the eighties.
