Gov. Phil Scott announces first loosening of business restrictions

MONTPELIER — As COVID-19 continues to trend in a better-than-expected direction in Vermont, Gov. Phil Scott on Friday announced the first loosening of economic restrictions issued in connection with the disease and identified a framework for the state to plan gradual re-opening.

"...I want to be clear — we're not declaring victory," Scott said at a scheduled press conference on Friday. "Because we're not out of the woods yet. But we are seeing some daylight."

It's important to understand that the state will only continue to see positive trends if people remain committed to social distancing measures like staying home and wearing masks, Scott said.

"If we continue to do this, we can take small steps to get more Vermonters back to work," he said. "As I've said before, this will not be the opening of the floodgates. This work will take just as much commitment as we've had over the last month, maybe even more."

business with two employees can go to work. They must wear masks.

We have very few in the hospital (just 32 state wide). His step allows people who work construction, for example - as part of a 2 person crew - to be able to return to work. The order directs that they stay 6 feet apart.

He has not lifted the quarantine for people coming from out of state (they cannot stay at a hotel or airbnb). They can come if they are arriving to their own home (a second home) and quarantine for 2 weeks (no shopping, they can go straight to their home). We have troopers at the border working with anyone from out of state and police have worked with the hotels/motels.
