In the aftermath of the West, Texas explosion, the Sacramento Bee published a political cartoon by Jack Ohman. The graphic used Perrys own words with an allusion to the tragedy in West. It was a stinging indictment of the negligence of Texas state government policies that contributed to, and ultimately resulted in, the explosion.
Perry responded with false indignation. To hear it from our Governor, youd think Jack Ohman burned the American flag or pushed grandma down the hill in her wheelchair. The real truth is this: Perry was embarrassed. Like the other of his oops moments, Perry faked offense to deflect attention from his poor performance. Or perhaps, it was his guilt he wished to hide.
Perry's indignation wasn't about the explosion and neither was Ohmans cartoon. Ohman used the explosion as a metaphor. The purpose of the cartoon was to target Rick Perry and his policies, not Wests victims. Most realists in Texas know that Rick Perry is upset by nothing, unless it has to do with Rick Perry and Rick Perrys image. The cartoon portrayed him as the scoundrel he is, that's why he's mad.
Perry supporters reactions were pitifully predictable. It was clear theyd never looked at the cartoon or perhaps they dont know what a metaphor is or understand its purpose in communication.
The explosion happened on Wednesday, April 17th and the Governor waited two days to visit the town and survey the damage. His concern for the tragic deaths of my fellow Texans and our fellow Americans didnt stop him from embarking upon his economic development trip to Illinois three days later, even though chaos persisted in McLennan County.

(579 posts)Perry doesn't want to be beholden to the Feds, but he sure is in favor of Fed funds to help the victims in West, Texas. And Cruz, I wonder if he'll vote "no" to federal aid like he did for the victims of Sandy?
Of course, I don't want the victims to suffer any more than they have already, but if there was a way to teach Perry and Ted Cruz a lesson without hurting the victims I would be all for it.
