Houston Fire Department: 50 water rescues and counting on stormy Saturday

Heavy downpours and thunderstorms hit Harris County on Saturday night, prompting officials to warn people to stay off the roads.

Flood Control District officials reported as much as 6 inches of rainfall in some parts of Harris County in three hours, mostly in the west, southwest and central parts of the area.

Another 2 to 4 inches of rain were expected overnight when another cluster of storms moves into the Houston region from the west, said National Weather Service staff meteorologist Wendy Wong.

There were also some reports of golf ball-sized hail in parts of the Houston metro area.

I had gone out to deposit my IRS check, so I was away from home when the worst hit. I live in the area that got the most rain and hail.

Power was knocked out until 5:30 this morning, too. Friends that have a cafe where I eat most Saturdays live in the same area. We left the cafe after finding out what the flooding was like, and I chilled at his place for a few hours (watched the Rockets lose.) There was a pile of half-inch hail in his backyard, though I never saw any at my place.

I noticed that San Antonio was getting a fair amount from this storm system. How'd the rest of Texas do?

Last night, I was getting my info from Weather Underground and reading the NWS warnings. That's where I saw the part about our particular area (bordered by Addicks Reservoir, Sugarland, Hobby Airport and Reliant Stadium) getting from 5-7" in two hours. The second link has an image of that area in red and pink.

I hope you didn't get too wet in your walk

The airport was 1.77 inches.

I live in the dry part of town.
It's totally amazing in a disgusting sort of way.
