TxDOT relaunches Don't Mess With Texas for new generation
Although "Don't Mess With Texas" has remained in the cultural consciousness since its introduction 27 years ago by the Texas Department of Transportation, the meaning behind it may have become lost in translation as newer generations of Texans populated the state.
That is why TxDOT relaunched the Don't Mess With Texas campaign last week in an effort to get garbage off the streets and into trash cans. The "CANpaign" reintroduces the red-, white- and blue-themed trash cans, 300 of which will be placed in various locations throughout the state.
As part of a seven-city tour across the state, TxDOT officials were at the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum on Friday, along with Midland and Odessa officials, to talk about the campaign and why it is important to keep Texas clean.
"Highway litter is a major problem in our state," said Fred Underwood, a TxDOT commissioner. "More than 1.1 billion pieces of trash accumulate along our state-maintained highways annually."

To guaranty a successful marketing "CANpaign" I believe that placing the red-, white- and blue-themed trash cans at the Governor's Mansion and at the south portico of the State Capitol would be a public service!
