New Braunfels sues troubled Scooter Store
The city of New Braunfels on Friday sued The Scooter Store to recover more than $2.6 million in job-creation incentives that were awarded to the company.
In a lawsuit filed in Comal County District Court, the New Braunfels Industrial Development Corp. accuses The Scooter Store of by failing to maintain employment levels under a 2009 economic incentive agreement.
The Scooter Store, which last month issued pink slips to nearly 1,000 workers at its New Braunfels headquarters, received $3.4 million for creating 401 jobs. But New Braunfels alleges the company failed to sustain those positions after various rounds of layoffs.
After last month's mass layoff, The Scooter Store only had about 117 working at its headquarters.
