Capitol staffer indicted on 11 ethics charges
The chief of staff for a Central Texas lawmaker was indicted on state jail felonies in connection with allegations of tampering with travel records, the Travis County district attorney said Friday.
John Higgins Jr., chief of staff for state Rep. Tim Kleinschmidt, R-Lexington, was indicted on 11 counts of tampering with a governmental record and one count of securing execution of a document by deception both punishable by up to two years in state jail and up to a $10,000 fine, Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmbergs office said in a statement.
Her offices Public Integrity Unit sought the indictments based on a referral from the State Auditors Office, the statement said.
The auditors investigation was a result of allegations that Higgins received travel reimbursements of more than $9,000 for trips he did not take from August 2011 to July 2012, the district attorneys office said.

I've taken the "detour" through Lexington between Georgetown and Bryan/College Station before and didn't get a travel reimbursement. I don't know how a town of 1,282 managed to get a state rep into office.
