Gov. Perry names new Kaufman County DA

AUSTIN -- Gov. Rick Perry on Wednesday appointed Kaufman County Court at Law Judge Erleigh Norville Wiley to serve the unexpired term of slain District Attorney Mike McLelland.

McLelland and his wife were murdered at their home near Forney last month.

If the appointment is confirmed by the Texas Senate, Wiley's term would run through the end of 2014.

According to her online biography, Wiley was raised in Kaufman County, attended Texas Tech University and received a law degree from the University of Texas School of Law. She is a former supervising attorney for the Dallas County District Attorney's Office.
