Five Dallas City Council members sent a memo to Mayor Mike Rawlings Wednesday requesting the Dallas Convention Center be named in honor of former Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
In the memo below, Pauline Medrano, Tennell Atkins, Vonciel Jones Hill, Linda Koop and Ann Margolin offer their reasons for the request. But long story short, they insist: Without Hutchison and the $225 million-plus she secured on the citys behalf during her time in Washington, thered be no such thing as a Trinity River Corridor Project. Hence, the five say, it makes perfect sense to rename the convention center the Kay Bailey Hutchison Dallas Convention Center.
Also, notes the memo: She led the effort to rescind the Wright Amendment and ensure federal support for the Love Field Modernization Program. Additionally she worked continuously with DART, to help create the nations biggest DART light rail system. (Well, sure if only because its the nations only Dallas Area Rapid Transit light rail system.)
Weve got calls into the mayors office for his thoughts on the matter. Till then read the memo below, which concluded by saying, We cannot think of a more deserving public servant for whom the Dallas Convention could be named. Convention center, that is.
