about Texas. Since the republicans took over Texas, it has gotten so dirty: the air, the ground, the water, the politics, the destruction of schools, the hate. I can't wait 'til the good guys take it back.

The Bluebonnets. They give me hope.

Yeah I am thinking a road trip to Ennis is in my future!

We don't even have Bluebonnets yet (although the green grass mounds are there).

But I honestly don't know where there is a field as pretty around here.

My mom called highway rest stops "Lady Bird's Toilets". Apparently highway rest stops proliferated during Johnson's term of office, and Lady Bird, apparently, didn't like to fly.

We were usually very grateful to Lady Bird, when traveling American highways during the late 60's and 70's.

idea and work of the Youth Progress Administration during the New Deal. After a particularly bad wreck along one of Texas' highways, the wife of the administrator came up with the suggestion of constructing rest stops. The YPA in Texas began the project which was very successful and then picked up by YPA divisions in other states.

Oh, the administrator of the program in Texas: Lyndon Baines Johnson

We drove our motorhome from Stonewall to Mason yesterday and saw lots of bluebonnets blooming along the side of the road. No big fields yet, though. This post is so timely as I am waiting for My husband to get his shower so we can go out hunting for bluebonnets. I just showed him this pic and we checked our map to see if it was close. Sadly, a bit far for us today but it's tempting. Maybe we'll have some luck in Mason.
