The Wreck of the White Power Herald

Sung to the tune of "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by Gordon Lightfoot
Lyrics by Ken League

The original song by Gordon Lightfoot is here to listen to while singing the revised lyrics.

The legend lives on from the LCRA on down
Of the reservoir they call it Lake Travis
The lake, it is said never gives up her dead
When the skies of September turn greyish
With a load of white privilege and a score of Karens more
Than the White Power Herald held empty
That good ship and true was a bone to be chewed
When the waves of September came early
.
The ship was the pride of the Brooks Hollow side
Coming back from some spa out in Lakeway
As the cabin cruisers go she was smaller than most
With a crew and good captain well hammered
Concluding some terms for a couple of bar tabs
When they left fully loaded for Trumpland
And later that day when the ship’s bell rang
Could it be the crab dip they're feelin’?
.
The wind in the ropes made a tattle tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing
And every one knew, as the captain did too,
T’was the socialist peril come stealin’
The cocktails came late and the nachos had to wait
When the waves of September came slashin’
When late morning came it was sunny and warm
In the face of climate change denial
.
When lunch time came, the old drunk came on deck sayin’
Fellas, the ice chest is empty
At one thirty p.m. a big wave swamped the deck, he said
Guys, dibs on the life jacket
The captain wired in he had water comin’ in
And the good ship and crew were in peril
And later that day when ‘is Trump flags went down
Came the wreck of the White Power Herald
.
Does any one know where the love of God goes
When the waves turn the minutes to hours?
The Sheriff’s office said they’d have made Devil’s Cove
If they’d left just one six pack unopened
They might have thrown up or they might have passed out
They may have drunkenly collided
All that remains is the tweets and the memes
Of the liberals and soc-media users
.
Lake Buchanan rolls, LBJ sings
As if from his library building
Marble Falls steams like a young man’s dreams
The islands and bays are for sportsmen
And further below Lake Austin you know
Takes in what Lake Travis can send her
And the drunken boaters go as the mariners all know
With the waves of September remembered
.
At a musty old bar in Lakeland they prayed
In the Austin yacht club marina
The tip bell was chimed till it rang four or five times
For each one on the White Power Herald
The legend lives on from the LCRA on down
Of the reservoir they call it Lake Travis
Travis, they said, never gives up her dead when the waves of September came early

I was really hoping someone would do a Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald parody, and you stepped up and delivered.

While I played trumpet for a dozen years and goofed around on other instruments from time to time, I don't have the talent or equipment to produce even an audio performance.
