High school football: State champion Refugio may have to play entire schedule on road

Refugio has faced adversity before and come through it.

The Bobcats football program could have another challenge on tap in 2020.

Head coach Jason Herring said as of Tuesday the reigning Class 2A Division I state champions may have to play the regular season schedule completely on the road due to concerns with Jack Sportsman Bobcat Stadium.

The Refugio ISD announced Jan. 13 that the stadium was being closed to the public due to falling debris from the concrete stadium.

"Our bleachers are 65 years old and they are starting to fall apart at the top," Herring said. "We were in the process of figuring out where we were, how much it was going to cost and how we were going to pay for it and then COVID-19 hit. Right now we are in limbo, just sitting tight and seeing where we are.
