Wolf says large Trump nomination crowd in Gettysburg would violate state ban -- he 'hopes and expects

If President Donald Trump delivers his nomination address at Gettysburg National Military Park, it could involve an outdoor crowd of no more than 250 — the state-imposed limit due to the pandemic.

The Gov. Tom Wolf administration late Monday responded to the possibility of Trump coming to Gettysburg to deliver his address following his formal nomination as the Republican presidential candidate on Aug. 27.

Trump announced on Twitter on Monday afternoon he is considering delivering the address at Gettysburg. He said it’s been narrowed down to two possible locations, with the White House being the other.

He wrote “We will announce the decision soon!”

A spokesman for the military park and Eisenhower National Historic Site on Monday afternoon said he didn’t have details on things such as what the address would entail in terms of number of people involved, whether it would be open to the public and whether any special permission is required.

Trump’s campaign didn’t immediately respond to questions.

The Wolf administration’s statement noted the park is managed by the National Park Service. But it said all gatherings in Pennsylvania, including those held on federal land, “should abide by the Commonwealth’s restrictions, which have proven to mitigate COVID-19.”

The Gettysburg address was 271 words long and an estimated two minutes to deliver.

I’m down with it if Republicans limit their candidate to only two minutes or less.

Hey, I know it sounds silly, but have you read the news for the last 4 years?

This came out of nowhere. I figured he'd just do it at one of his golf clubs.

Why Gettysburg, of all places? Why would he want to speak there, where all of his Confederate-loving supporters would have to go to the place that was the turning point of the Civil War, and where their "esteemed" forefathers LOST the battle? Hmmmm, on second thought, they probably don't even know that....

Yesterday I had to go to Erie PA, from Warren PA to Erie on Rt 6 I saw a lot of Trump signs and no Biden signs. There are Biden signs in Kane Pa and between Kane and Warren including one side St in Warren which has several. At least this time I am seeing far more Biden signs. 4 years ago I saw maybe 8 signs for Hillary in all 10 of the NW PA counties that I travel in.

to Hamlin the other day. I was very surprised at all the Trump signs on lawns. I haven't seen any for either candidate in Monroe. One Trump bumper sticker in Walmart parking lot.

Could be the Biden supporters are too afraid to let their choice be known for what the crazies might do? Twice I was almost run off the road in NY for having a Kerry and then a Hillary bumper sticker. I will keep my choice to myself and not advertise it.

For those who have never been there, it is probably the biggest statue in the park. There are larger monuments but not statues.

If the governor does anything, Trump will start his tirade on him (and Republicans already hate the governor). If the governor allows it, Trump will think he can walk all over him.

The one thing that Wolf has that 45 doesn't is a town named after his family, from before 45's family got off the boat.

They think that Wolf is a pushover because he is low-keyed but they better leave that particular German alone.
