Jamie Kirk Hahn dies from the stabbing in Raleigh

Jamie Kirk Hahn, 29, died early Wednesday from injuries inflicted Monday evening in an attack in which she and her husband were stabbed at their North Raleigh home.
“Jamie lost her struggle to live this morning. We lost a beautiful and loving wife, daughter and friend. We all lost a pure and brave spirit,” her family said in a statement issued early Wednesday morning.
Nation Hahn, 27, has been released from WakeMed Hospital after treatment for his injuries.
Jonathan Broyhill, 31, a friend of the couple and best man at their wedding, has been arrested in the attack and had been charged with attempted murder.
Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said the department would seek to have that charge withdrawn and “will present probable cause for an arrest warrant charging him with murder.”

Suspect in Jamie Hahn stabbing made questionable campaign reports, ex-congressman says

RALEIGH - The man accused of stabbing political strategist Jamie Kirk Hahn is being investigated for questionable campaign finance reports he made while working for U.S. Rep. Brad Miller in 2012, the former Raleigh congressman said Wednesday.
Miller said he hired Hahn’s firm, Sky Blue Strategies, in roughly 2010 for fund-raising help in his 2012 re-election campaign, which he later abandoned. Jonathan Broyhill, 31, worked for her and would have been the principal worker with access to fund-raising software, Miller said.
“Some of the things that Jon said about the campaign finances were inconsistent with other information,” Miller said Wednesday. “It’s probably the case that Jamie was asking questions on behalf of the campaign about campaign finances. I think it’s bound to be part of the investigation of Jon’s motive.”
Miller stressed that he does not know of any law enforcement inquiry into election money and said any investigation is limited to his campaign thus far.
“Obviously, we’ll have someone look at bank records and (Federal Elections Commission) reports and see if people shown on the reports were paid,” Miller said.
A memorial service has been set for Saturday for Hahn, 29, who died early Wednesday from injuries suffered Monday in a stabbing attack at her North Raleigh home.

Was it a "Love Triangle, Revenge or Something else gone wrong."

I wish I didn't know about it because it's so incredibly sad and overwhelmingly so.

I actually know Jonathan, not super duper well, but as a fellow tenor in the chorus I sing in. I am honestly just stunned.

4. "Jon Broyhill and Nation Hahn’s unusual bond, stunning break"

From today's N&O...

....

Jon Broyhill grew up conservative, graduating from Harris Chapel Christian Academy. He didn’t go to college. He worked at Lowes Foods in Lenoir after high school. He declared bankruptcy at age 23, owing more than $32,000.

....

Broyhill had run up debts on seven credit cards and taken out five loans, most of them cash-advance. His total liabilities came to $32,453, and he had $28 in the bank, according to court records.

....

Miller said that Broyhill would have been the principal person with access to campaign-finance software and that he made statements about the campaign’s money that was contradicted by other information.

Jamie Hahn had likely confronted him about it, he said.
