Is it illegal to bulldoze cemeteries in Missouri?

http://www.marshallnews.com/story/1810896.html

Look over halfway down the page-paragraph 12 or so. It's interesting-talks about how there were a few cemeteries of possible historical significance in Saline County that were bulldozed. In one cemetery the headstones were buried and in another they were used to line a creek bed. I believe I know which one is buried-I used to hang out there growing up and look at the headstones.

I never thought of someone doing something like this. Is it illegal?

Only if they didn't get the required legal approval. LiberalFighter Feb 2012 #1

it sounds like there is quite a bit of disagreement about approval. It states that the deed sold 49.5 acres of land for regular usage with 0.5 to be protected as a family burial ground.

Most of the headstones were from the mid 1800's and were actually those of founding families from the area.

They've lost a bit of their history by doing this.
