Mandatory safety inspections would no longer be required for more than a million vehicles on Missouri’s roads under legislation passed by the state House.

Safety inspections currently are required every other year for all vehicles more than five years old. Legislation passed Wednesday by the House would require inspections only for vehicles more than 10 years old or with more than 150,000 miles.

Legislative staff estimate that almost 1.2 million vehicles would become exempt from inspections as a result of the bill.

1. I'm tore on this one. cars have definitely been getting better over the years. but 10 yrs is

but it also stipulates 150K mileage as a threshold for inspection so I am thinking that would come into play much more quickly for the average driver. Before I retired my roundtrip to work was 46 miles each day and that was just across town. It adds up quickly.

He's going to drag race it but it's also street legal & registered for street use.

6. It's a hassle

It's a hassle and frankly unnecessary. A 10 year old car or less wont have many issues and when you do your oil changes at the pit shops, they already do checkpoint inspections to get you to spend more. Only issue they wont check for are the muffler leaks and emission releases in certain areas of the state. The new law would save the consumer money. Over 10 years and 150K miles, yeah it's time to check out the systems.
