Btw,
@StarTribune
had a great story this week about how Minneapolis bans businesses from installing security shutters to protect their windows because shutters “create the impression that an area is ‘unsafe’ and ‘troublesome.”

that Ordinance being discussed at the time. BTW,at that time,Nicollet Ave was already in decline. But that is a different story.. The News Media had already pounded a stake through the Heart of Downtown and it scared the shit out of the Suburban Shoppers.

accompanying the rise of malls, is extremely expensive parking. That's what did away with my trying to recapture the nostalgia of shopping downtown. Plus, with Dayton's gone, it's never been the same.

It's fine if you're already going there for work or changing buses, but otherwise it's too much of a hassle, more than driving to the burbs.

are hurting badly from the reduction in the lunchtime and after-work shopping and eating crowd. And some (probably a lot) of the shift to work-at-home is permanent.

Minneapolis, like so many other cities, have struggled so hard to keep their downtowns alive (I remember "The Hole That Ate Nicollet Mall" days of the 80's when Donaldson's burned down (Thanksgiving Day's fire in 1982) and they didn't build anything there for years)....

Sad to see that we're back to that kind of thing and worse.

Everything was burned near my house, the libraries, grocery stores, pharmacies banks, etc...
It's unfortunate that the same thing is happening downtown. That is in no way a comment against the protesters and their cause. At least in South Minneapolis, the arson and vandalism was primarily committed by white people who don't live in the area.

The Downtown Council members can only blame themselves. There desired downtown Shoppers were to come form Minnetonka,and Eden Prairie and Orano and Edina.

One of the largest issues was the ability to access downtown shopping,always under construction.
