Lynch campaign leaks a poll that shows them 6 points behind Markey.

Never good sign when people are reduced to leak a poll where they are that far behind. Also, their poll shows nearly as many unenrolled as Democrats voting in this primary. I wonder what previous polls with both sides having a primary show about Republican participation.

LYNCH POLL CLAIMS CLOSE RACE

A statewide phone poll conducted over the weekend for the Stephen Lynch campaign shows the South Boston Democrat trailing fellow congressman Ed Markey by six percentage points with a week left before next Tuesday's US Senate primary.

The poll of 1374 likely voters in the Democratic primary, concluded before back-to-back debates Monday and Tuesday, found 44.5 percent planning to vote for Markey, 38.9 percent for Lynch, and 16.5 percent undecided. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.7 percent.

Both are viewed favorably by most likely primary voters. Markey is seen as very or somewhat favorable by 67 percent, with 27 percent saying very or somewhat unfavorable; for Lynch the response is 62 percent favorable, 30 percent enfavorable.

The poll suggests that the composition of voters who come to the polls Tuesday — in a race largely overshadowed by the marathon bombing as well as the Boston mayoral race — could go a long way toward determining the Democratic nominee.

Markey holds a 21-point advantage with registered Democrats, who account for 59 percent of the poll respondents; and a 14-point lead among women, who account for 58 percent. Lynch holds a 17-point lead among unenrolled voters, and a six-point lead among men. Markey does better among older voters, while Lynch leads with voters under age 50.

The Markey campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Update: "Leaking their internal polling represents another clear sign of desperation from the Lynch campaign," says Markey press secretary Andrew Zucker.

Pro-Stephen Lynch group tied to ironworkers releases political robo-call mentioning Boston bombings

A group calling itself “the ninety-nine percent,” apparently created by the leader of an ironworkers’ union, made automated phone calls on Wednesday supporting U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch and mentioning the Boston Marathon bombings.

Lynch is running against U.S. Rep. Edward Markey in the Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. Lynch’s campaign immediately disavowed the call.

The call states: “All of us share the shock and sorrow of the recent events in Boston, but as Americans we’re not going let the perpetrators of this tragedy or anyone else stop our democracy from moving forward. Wouldn’t it be great to have a real working person representing you in the Senate? Not another millionaire, someone who truly understands the day to day problems facing working families?” The ad goes on to praise Lynch as an ironworker who has stood up for working families.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday, calls to voters reminders to our friends and relatives in Mass.

Lynch would send the wrong message, Lynch would open a threat of a Republican win in the final.

Two points:

a/ It is an internal Lynch poll and the only reason he leaks it is because all other polls are even worse. There is NO poll showing Lynch even in the MOE.

This said, even if he had 30 points ahead, I still would be concerned because this is a special election.

And do not throw numbers like that. All I posted was a internal poll of the Lynch campaign showing him losing. Yes, people need to go and vote, but people know there is an election Tuesday. If anything because of the ads on TV, of the mailing and phone calls they get, ... Not sure where you leave, but here in Central Massachusetts, people know.

6. This election is all about turnout. Does a high turnout district like the one

Lynch is in have enough weight to take down the rest of the state who will probably turn out in low numbers? I think this will be interesting.
