Steve Alford lies about an incident at Iowa during presser

A reporter asked Alford about the Pierre Pierce sexual assault case, where Alford tried to cover up Pierce's crime and then tried to strongarm the victim and then tried to "Pray away" the crime, and Alford said that "He did whatever he was told by the University" and some other claptrap.
Did the U of I tell Alford to do all the above mentioned things? I don't think so. The University needs to issue a statement denying that weak bastard's allegations and UCLA should fire him at once as well. But somehow, I don't think either thing will happen.

This is a good article about him. I'm sure the UI didn't encourage him to bully the victim (see added bold below).

Bernstein: UCLA Hired A Scumbag

By Dan Bernstein-

(CBS) The protesters deserve to be heard once again.

They gathered outside Carver-Hawkeye Arena to help bring attention to Steve Alford’s unconscionable behavior after his star player turned sexual assailant. They stood for what was right after the Iowa coach acted to shield a violent criminal and intimidate the victim both publicly and privately.

{snip}

Alford enlisted the help of close friend Jim Goodrich, the campus representative for Christian group Athletes in Action who often traveled with the team and conducted bible-study sessions. Per specific instruction from Alford, the victim was invited to what she was told was a “prayer meeting,” at which she was urged to back off and not cause problems for a basketball program that could overpower her.

Don’t make waves, honey, in the name of Jesus. The Lord wants you to shut up, if you know what’s good for you.

According to the official report from the special committee that later investigated the handling of the case after the ugly facts emerged, “The desire to facilitate an informal resolution of the matter may have had the opposite result. The Committee recommends that the Athletic Department take steps to limit the involvement of outside advisors, religious or otherwise.”

...right after signing a contract to remain at his old job for several more years.

Iowa is much better without this clown.

According to DuPage County (Illinois) court records, in June 2001, Pierce was arrested and had to post bail on charges of criminal defacement and mob action for allegedly spray-painting his high school, although Pierce disputes the records.

In September 2002, Pierce was charged with one count of third-degree sexual assault in Iowa City. He was arrested on October 1.[21] On September 7, a report was filed by a woman who was treated at a hospital emergency room the day before. She accused Pierce, an acquaintance, of performing unwanted sex acts on her at a party at his Iowa City apartment on September 6.

On January 27, 2005, a disturbance was investigated at the West Des Moines home of a woman Pierce had been dating for 2½ years.[30] He allegedly choked her, threatened her with a knife and stripped her after an argument over her new boyfriend. Pierce was also accused of causing damage to her apartment and stealing a laptop and camera

But I did not know that he was a vandal. And the woman in the first incident was while he was still at the Uof I and Alford tried to cover it up. University of Iowa is better off without those slimy so and so's around. Heck the state of Iowa is better off without those two around.

offense with his ex is what finally got him kicked off the team. From the same wiki link:

After police confirmed Pierce was the focus of their investigation, he was dismissed from the basketball team by coach Steve Alford on February 2, with Alford saying that [Pierce had] betrayed the trust they placed in him when he was given a second chance two years prior. At the time, Pierce was the leading scorer on the team averaging 17.8 points per game, the third-best in the Big Ten Conference, and led the Hawkeyes with 16.1 points a game as a sophomore in 2003–04. Pierce met with Alford for about 15 minutes on February 15, and Pierce's appeal to have his dismissal reconsidered was rejected by Alford. Pierce remained on scholarship and was still attending classes.

Not to worry though, the rapist recieved a 2 year sentence for his second offense. Of which he only served 11 months. He is now playing overseas.

Pierce is a piece of shit and Alford is no better for using his position and religion to intimidate a victim. Neither one should be working where they can repeat their offensive behavior.

But isn't that what the rape culture is all about? Enabling the actions of a rapist without repercussion. hell even the rapist only got a slap on the wrist because he can put a ball through a hoop. When will people stand up and say this is unacceptable?
