Toddler loses legs in lawn mower accident

PALM HARBOR --

Palm Harbor Firefighters responded to a call that a toddler's legs were amputated following a lawn mower accident on Wednesday night.

According to the report, the father was outside on the riding lawn mower in the West Lake Village Subdivision around 7:30 p.m. when the 2 1/2-year-old girl came out and ran in front of the mower.

Firefighter's report that the mother was screaming at the toddler to stop and the girl slipped and fell in front of the mower. The father could not stop the mower in time and the lawn mower ran over her, reports said.

The toddler suffered from immediate amputations to both legs below the knees and partial amputation on her hand.

She was transported by air to Tampa General Hospital. The parents are being treated for hysteria.
