Police capture kangaroo hopping through South Florida city

Police officers captured an unlikely suspect bouncing through a Fort Lauderdale neighborhood.

Someone reported seeing a kangaroo on Thursday morning and officers responded to the scene and captured the animal.

Officers put the kangaroo in a squad car shortly after 9:15 a.m. They called the nonprofit South Florida Wildlife Center to take the kangaroo.

So far, police have few clues as to where the misplaced marsupial came from. This isn't the first time a kangaroo has been on the loose in Florida.

His name is Jack and he belongs to a guy named Anthony Macias - he was captured but was not given back to his owner because his neighborhood in Ft Lauderdale isn't zoned for kangaroos.

alligators were bad enough, but even the invasive plants were a problem.

Are oleanders native, or did someone visiting Italy bring them over? Kids died when the flowers were put on birthday cakes.

Did the woman who brought over the water hyacinths for her backyard pond ever do time?

And now they have pythons. Kangaroos are a relief.

I'm just imagining the police hopping around town as a tactic to capture a kangaroo.

I know pythons and other non-native species have been reeking havoc down there for ages now, but I wonder just how many non-native species there are at this point and if any of them have spread to surrounding states?

Last time South Florida had a really hard freeze they hoped it would kill off the invasive pythons. The pythons are still there and are spreading north.

"Police have few clues as to where the misplaced marsupial came from."

Probably Australia.

"Officers put the kangaroo in a squad car shortly after 9:15 a.m."

I assume the cop opened the door and said "Hop in!"
