UPDATE: Coffee with Rep. Xavier Becerra - 34th CD

Last edited Sun Apr 7, 2013, 01:01 AM - Edit history (1)

Rep. Becerra, Chairman of the Democratic Caucus will host another "Coffee with your Congressman." I've been to a couple of these, and they are very worthwhile.

Saturday, April 6, 2013

10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

PUENTE Learning Center

501 South Boyle Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90033

(Parking entrance on Boyle Avenue between 4th and 5th Street)

Doors open 30 minutes prior to the start of the meeting.

Need more information? Call my office at (213) 481-1425 if you have a question, or need special accommodations.

I hope to see you there!

It was a WONDERFUL event! About 130 people showed up, and the Congressman kept things moving right along. He's been in Congress 20 years and Boyle Heights was originally within his district. Then it was out for another 10, but back again. Mentioned that the 34th has the largest number of uninsured people in Boyle Heights.

He gave the best explanation of the Social Security situation I've ever heard and appealed to the younger people..."Don't let anyone touch Social Security." He said even though he favors transparency, headway is being made on immigration behind closed doors. Veterans are a huge priority for him, and he mentioned Veterans Affairs was in no way prepared for so many vets returning home alive, but with grievous physical and mental wounds. North Korea came up in a question, and he feels that no one has a clear idea of what to expect. Any strike made would be catastrophically detrimental to the people who have no clue what's going on with their leadership. China needs to step up and exert pressure.

Xavier is such a fabulous communicator, both in English and Spanish, and again, I went away with the feeling that he'd make a wonder VP candidate in 2016.

be sure to go.

I would like to see him run for the Senate if not for the presidency. He would make a great president.

Thanks for posting this. I hope DUers from LA who have not met Becerra will attend.

NORTHEAST LA MEET AND GREET

On Saturday, April 6, from 2-4pm, Congressman Becerra will join local and state elected officials for a meet and greet at the Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock, 2225 Colorado Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90041. Come get important information about government services and hear from your elected representatives.

Yes, Xavier is a GREAT voice in the House. I think he would make a great VP candidate.. ...always votes correctly, bi-lingual, wife is a doctor, one of the most consistently winning representatives. He's certainly an up-and-comer.
