White supremacist fliers threatening BLM supporters found on downtown Martinez sidewalk
MARTINEZ — Racist fliers threatening harm to supporters of the Black Lives Matter movement were found by police in a downtown street Saturday night, authorities said Sunday.
Police responded at about 9:45 p.m. to reports of fliers containing hate speech from a white supremacist group left on a sidewalk near downtown, according to a news release. Police said they do not have leads on who left them on the sidewalk.
The white supremacist group named on the fliers is designated as a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center and is based in Florida.
“The City of Martinez does not tolerate hate related crimes and as a community we need to stand together to promote unity and acceptance for all people,” Chief Manjit Sappal said in the statement. “This hateful, hurtful, and offensive act does not define our city and we must all do our part to identify those responsible, so they can be brought to justice.”
