Related: About this forumI hate to bring this up but...
does anyone have any idea as to when PG&E will start its power outages AGAIN?
I want to be prepared this time-- last time I couldn't even find a flashlight to buy!!
Then there's the problem about what to eat, what to buy (not too much, else perishables will expire fast), etc.
I'm not ready for this

(16,954 posts)Been working on emptying the freezer and stocking up on peanut butter and protein bars. Make sure Ive got cash and a never let the gas tank get below 1/2 full. Fun times ahead.

Oh yes, and the gas tank.
Thank you

(16,954 posts)No soy and great flavors. The cinnamon bun and the dark chocolate with sea salt are my faves. I get them through iherb.com. Amazon has them but you have to have a prime membership to get them. So 220 calories, 20 grams protein and 1 gram sugar.

as for flashlights, about 10 years ago we bought 2 Mag-Lights. The one I chose has an LED light, M. Dixie chose one with
the 4 D batteries. The LED is so much brighter. ( neener neener to Mr. dixie )
Just today I found a page of recommended flashlights, I may add one from that list.

Can you afford a generator???? We use them down here in the South for post hurricane power.
We also have a chest freezer, which keeps things cold for a couple days even with no power, esp. when you add containers of water that freeze so they become giant ice cubes..old milk cartons, rinsed of course.
In a just world, PG&E would be a consumer Co-op.

(2,513 posts)The first three weeks of shut-down showed me how inadequate my earthquake preparedness is.
(Oops, again, this was a reply to the OP.)

(60,010 posts)All the flashlights use batteries.
I was referring to actual light bulb types.

(38,264 posts)I just wanted something so I don't fall down the stairs at night. I'm not looking to blind my enemies.
Target has some inexpensive Eveready LED flashlights that seem to be very reliable. They use one "D" cell.
I also have a yellow Dorcy floating flashlight made for boating. It's waterproof so it could be used outdoors in a storm, and only cost ten dollars.

We have a bin of 2-liter soda bottles filled with water in our freezer. Those will keep things cold long enough to share the food with family, friends, and neighbors who don't have freezers, and then when everything is thawed they are an extra source of fresh water.
It's earthquakes we worry about here in California.
