My stepdaughter is moving to Prescott. What can you tell me about the city?

She and her husband are strong progressives and they live in Cincinnati now. She has just landed a very good job there. From what I read on Google, it looks just beautiful. Are the people there liberal-minded?

Anything you can tell me is great...

They can come visit Tucson. It is a nice mix here really. Coming from a border town right next to KS & OK, right there on the MO side. This place is way more liberal than they think they are.

It would be a nice day trip.

It is a smaller town, less than 40,000.

It think some of the residence of Prescott can give you more info for the other questions.

It's close to Jerome, which is an arts colony, and Sedona which is, well, Sedona. Flagstaff is very liberal and not far away. Not close to Tucson.

BEAUTIFUL! There are even TREES AND GREEN THINGS there! Lol. It's at a higher elevation, so the summers aren't quite so murderously hot, and winters even see a little snow. But it is a very small "small town" and pretty conservative. They might find a couple of relatable folks, though. When I lived in AZ, I was in Phx. I was a transplant from Indianapolis, and hated every minute of the 13 years I was there. But I did say if I had my druthers, I would like to live in Prescott, ( proper pronunciation PRESS-cut).

Also, very near Flagstaff, beautiful drive between the two, and they might find a few more people they can relate to, there, also.

Best advice, stay in the high country, the rest of the state is a shitstain.

I would assume that the fact that she has been transferred to a church there, she should be able to find a community of like-minded folks. But in reality it is pretty Red area - that's the area that McCain is from, and there are some small towns around there that are hotbeds for conspiracy nuts and militia types. But it is beautiful, and has some really cool places nearby - Arcosanti, Jerome, Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon...

She and her husband are outdoor types, love hiking, camping. And they are in their 30s with a new baby. It's probably an ideal place in some ways. We hope to visit them once they get settled in. I'd like to see what it's like.

It was not without some trepidation that we moved from San Jose, California to help take care of my 90 year old mil. All I knew about Arizona was Joe Arpio and that basket case Jan Brewer. After two and a half years here, we have found that Tucson is to the right of the Bay Area by about two degrees. We are completely comfortable here and I'm so far left that my family calls me comrade.

I live in the Valley and hate it. I love Prescott. It's greener, has weather and I've found the people to be friendly.

If they want big city amenities, the north Valley is a little over an hour away. If they want real winter and winter sports, Flagstaff is just to the north and gorgeous. Sedona is marvelous scenery and also close by.

My husband's best friend and his wife bought a foreclosed place recently just outside Prescott. They're remodeling in anticipation of retiring to there eventually. I'm jealous.

If they can stand the culture shock from large city to small-town America, I think they'll like it.

There was a ceremony for a male partnership.

That we considered buying a home there. Downtown is very cool and they seem to always have something going on in the plaza major. I hear that the town leans right but you would not know that from visiting Downtown. Hell, we loved it there for the few days we visited. Your kid will be fine.

I think they are ready for some good weather after living in Cincinnati during her seminary years. She grew up in Nashville and found the winters in Cincy very hard to take...
