Top of the Lake

Is anybody else watching it? The first two episodes just screamed "weird" but the gorgeous New Zealand scenery kept us watching. By the end of the fourth episode we were hooked. Elizabeth Moss will probably snag awards for her acting. She can be a brittle character but she has a fantastic meltdown in the fourth episode. It's the first show I've watched in a while that has me on edge waiting for the next installment.

I lost interest. Started off really great, but now the plot is going off into some situations that I don't really care for. I will keep watching though because I want to know what happened to the little girl.

6. Yes a lot of "Twin Peaks" with a bit of AMC's "the Killing" thrown in...

the scenery is spectacular and I've never seen Elisabeth Moss in a role outside of Mad Men (where I think she is interesting as Peggy, but they really make her fairly unattractive)...

7. That's because there were TWO "classes" of working women in the early 60's

the girls who were not va-va-voom or socially connected...they were the ones who had to work to support themselves (no husband)

They rejected their small-town mores, and struck out on their own. They were the workhorses of the offices everywhere..many were just like Peggy...mousy, quiet, eager to learn (even though many would never advance in the company, and would often head back to their hometowns & find a guy to marry)

Then there were the show-horses (Joan), who may not have wanted to marry a boss, but who used their sexiness to make their jobs as advantageous as possible..(many did have affairs with bosses and some married them)

In the early 60's most women did not have college degrees, and the ones who did were usually teachers...not office workers.. Office work was the jumping off point where women started in the business world. After a few years of doing most of the actual work, lots of women like Peggy succeeded in business..

4. This sounds good! Sundance channel is one of the few we don't get, though.

Dammit! Hopefully, they'll re-air it on one of the sister networks, like AMC or IFC, once it's done on Sundance. I'd like to see it.

Elizabeth Moss is really impressive.

there were a few too many loose ends for me to feel satisfied. I realize it is more "artful" to leave some to the viewer's imagination and there was a bit of an interesting twist, but I'd like to have had at least a few more questions answered...

Beautiful scenery and well acted, but still left me sort of "hanging" at its conclusion...

I loved this series. Thought they wrapped it up pretty well.
At least had a clear understanding of the "family dynamics."

Don't want to give anything away, hope you know what I mean.

the story could have been told in 3 parts.. Lots of extraneous stuff in my opinion..and even with the long format, I thought they did not wrap up all the loose ends as well....or they rushed through them without much clarification

On a 1-10, I'd give it a 6.75
