The green mat on the stream is Parrot Feather, an invasive plant that escaped from fish tanks. First four at McConnell Springs, the rest at Lexington Cemetery, the final resting place of Henry Clay.

(1,576 posts)First off ... the parrot feather looks so lush and beautiful ... too bad it's invasive.
The memory evoked was with the spring beauties. As a young adult I was homeless for a few months and lived in the woods living off my sack of brown rice and what ever edibles I could gather. Spring beauties have a small node about the size of an acorn and are totally edible and delicious. Nice to look at and nice to eat.
I'm in Florida now and I sure do miss the spring blooms from the northern states. Weeping cherries, Bradford pears, forsythia ...
etc and on and on
