Sugar Hill, rather than paying up and signing over the rights as ordered, declared bankruptcy and closed up.
Truly a sick beat.

It's also interesting that although Grandmaster Flash had his name on "White Lines", he didn't actually have anything to do with the making of the album. He had left Sugar Hill the year before and the album was all Melle Mel. They slap Grandmaster's name on it to sell more records
