I tried to post a digital art from Flickr. But the image didn't show and I got a 404 This is not the page you’re looking for. So much for that. I guess I'll stick to the poetry group. Bummer.

In 15 years I still have never figured out how to post images to DU. This place is arcane.

6. You don't exactly 'post images' here ... you just put a URL that points at a jpg or gif file

that is publicly available (i.e. it can't be inside your facebook account, for example) ... into a DU message ... and it will show up here when you post your message.

The URL does need to actually end with .jpg .png or .gif (and maybe some others are supported) so not every image you come across on the internet can be linked in this way because the site it's on isn't publicly exposing the URL that leads directly to the picture (and hence you'll have no means of linking to it).

It's really not that arcane.

An easy way to put images into a DU message is to get an IMGUR account. Then you just upload image file to your imgur account, then copy the URL from imgur that points to the photo you uploaded and put it in your message. Here's a screen shot I just took and uploaded to imgur and got the URL for ...

Directly below this paragraph is the same link as the one above, but without the extra space. DU knows that this link is to a photo file (because it ends with .png) and presents the picture inline.

8. Use Imgur. It's free and works easily.

Upload your images is as easy as dragging and dropping.

Getting the link for the image to post here is as easy as clicking on the image at Imgur, which brings up a selection box with choices, one of which is "Direct Link", simply copy that link and paste it into your post and the image will display.

It is best to Preview your post to see if the image worked.

15. I've been

like a wounded animal, lol, going off to lick my wounds. I checked out Imgur and will open an account. Did a trial run and the infamous .jpeg revealed itself. So looking ahead I hope to be able to share to all of you. I just dislike when I'm not able to do a seemingly easy to post a photo or image.

21. I tried to open an account on Imgur. Tlhe problem was My lack of a cell phone.

They wanted to "tex" me. I have an ATT landline and they have no alternative to send me an emalil. I don't know anything about texting I just have an answering machine with ATT landline.

3. Might be an issue with Flickr

Send me the url to the image and let me have a look.
As Flickr requires a login, it may not allow links to outside.
Try uploading from your computer directly instead.

7. Yes it's probable that Flickr requiring a login is the issue here ...

But there is no way to 'upload directly from your computer' on DU.

You have to use a file hosting/sharing site and get the URL from that site, and post it in your message.

Okay, I dragged the image from your link to my desktop (there are multiple ways to get it to my desktop. but I just dragged
on my mac)

Then I went to the PostImage link.
https://postimages.org/
(no account needed)

From there I clicked "choose image"
navigate to the desktop, find image, and upload.

When it uploads you get several ways to use the link it creates. the "Direct Link" may be simplest.
Copy that link and paste it into the message text box at DU.
